Instructional Fly Fishing Videos and Articles

Fly Fishing is a life long pursuit. Maybe you just started fly fishing. Possibly you are a seasoned angler. Regardless of you level of experience, we all have one thing in common. A desire to learn and enjoy our time on the water more. I have been fly fishing since the age of 10 and still learn every time I hit the water. This is one of the main reasons I love fly fishing so much. Mother nature dumps out the puzzle pieces for us to examine and make sense of.

We have put this page together to help you catch more fish. We will add fly fishing instructional media as time passes. These may be instructional fly fishing videos, instructional fly fishing articles, instructional fly fishing diagrams, or instructional fly fishing media. Our hope is that you will benefit by enjoying your time on the water a little more.

Instructional Catch and Release Video

For this week’s Fly Fishing video, we join up with the kids from Joey Bee's Outdoor Adventure and learn how to safely catch and release a Trout. Anything we can do to help educate kids on the proper methods for Catch and release Fly Fishing, is worth the time and effort.

For this week’s Instructional Fly Fishing Video, Industry Representative Bill Dawson (Sage, Rio, Reddington, C&F) teaches us the best way to set up a fly line and backing. Bill shows us a loop splice with a Cortland Splicing needle that is the best connection I
have ever seen to connect a Fly Line and Backing .

Instructional Roll Cast Video

For this week’s Instructional Fly Fishing Video Catskill Legend Dave Brandt joins us up on the Battenkill. The sun got bright and the fish went down, so we decided to do a segment on the Roll Cast. Apart from being an amazing fly tyer, Dave is also a fantastic casting instructor.

Modified George Harvey Leader

Here is the leader formula referenced in Episode 14, February 2008. This is a modified leader formula for nymphs and dries, based on George Harvey's Slack Leader Formula. This is the only leader you need for most small to medium sized streams and rivers.
